All our client facing staff have previously worked in claims handling roles; some are professionally qualified, some are legally qualified, some have senior managerial experience and many have decades of experience handling claims.
Elaine has over 40 years claims and operational experience primarily within the Lloyd’s and London insurance market and prior to founding Belvedere Mead was a Senior Claims Executive with one of the larger London Market carriers, being part of their claims strategic board. Her experience covers insurance and reinsurance across a variety of classes and territories ranging from simple travel portfolio management to complex multi-party litigation on professional lines risks.
John’s experience stems from working in the UK Insurance Market for over 30 years, being responsible for claims handling and management at a senior level. John’s expertise is UK and International Liability and Commercial and Domestic Property claims having been responsible for a portfolio of high value and complex claims including those that progressed into litigation. John is conversant with the processes involved in the selection and control of service providers and has undertaken numerous reviews and audits at specific claims handling level, analysing claims risk, governance and technical standards which has helped combat fraud and improve loss ratios.
Colin has led a number of claims teams based on his significant experience in the UK Domestic and London Insurance markets across a number of lines including Motor, Professional Indemnity, UK and International Casualty, and has a wealth of experience in serious injury cases. With this experience Colin is now an active reviewer of TPA’s and Coverholders in a variety of product lines and undertakes technical audits, whilst also performing External Peer Reviews for a number of Managing Agents, including those required by Lloyd’s.
Jane commenced her career as a Barrister before moving to work within the London Insurance Market as a claims professional with particular emphasis on handling a portfolio of Professional Indemnity claims in both the UK and the USA. Jane has expertise in handling claims arising on D&O and E&O policies for a variety of professions including solicitors, accountants, auditors and professionals involved in the construction industry. She also has extensive experience in handling Bankers Blanket Bond claims including negotiation of commutation of those arising under BBB policies. Most recently Jane has undertaken a number of projects involving static claims, Peer Reviews and system implementations.
Sarah has over 30 years claims experience in the Lloyd’s Market, and was responsible for all aspects of claims handling on Insurance and Reinsurance policies whether written as Open Market or Coverholder business across a number of classes, including North American property, fine art, personal accident, travel, contingency, MTC/FTC and Specie. Her experience ranges from the appointment and management of experts through to the collection of outwards reinsurance collections, she therefore understands the need for proactive claims handling, accurate reserving, and key claims metrics. Since joining Belvedere Mead Sarah has undertaken numerous “external” Internal Peer Reviews for Managing Agents whose diverse underwriting portfolios have broadened her skill sets further with a variety of classes including PI, FI, Med Mal, Marine and Cyber.
Claire has over 30 years experience working in the London Insurance Market. She has predominantly, but not exclusively, been involved in the Reinsurance rather than Insurance market. Her technical expertise ranges from adjusting complex to non complex claims, lead and follow, for various classes of business, including Casualty, Property, encompassing Nat Cat response, Marine, Aviation, Oil & Gas and Asbestos & Pollution. She has been involved in a variety of technical projects including commutations and reserve redundancy reviews. Claire is conversant with XOL and Proportional contracts and has been responsible for the management of Letters of Credit. In addition to her technical skills, Claire is a strong operations analyst, being able to identify project needs and ensures they are delivered professionally and on schedule.
Lindsay qualified as a solicitor in 1997. After obtaining an MA in Medical Ethics and Law from King’s College London, she specialised in medical law and initially worked as in-house legal counsel at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, advising on various medico-legal and medico-ethical issues. In 2002, Lindsay returned to private legal practice in the City and managed portfolios of malpractice defence claims pursued against a variety of different client organisations. In 2017, Lindsay joined Belvedere Mead in our Professional Lines adjusting team where she assists in the provision of a claims handling service focused on Professional Indemnity claims arising on D&O, E&O and Cyber insurance policies for a multitude of professions including financial institutions.
Charlotte commenced her insurance career in 2004, initially with an Accident Management Company in Sussex before moving to London to work in the claims divisions of both Marsh and Aon where she gained experience across a number of casualty and motor lines of business before specialising in aviation claims handling with AON as Claims Manager (Aviation). She is fully conversant with London Market systems and processes and uses her experience to progress claims to settlement at the earliest opportunity.
Jane is the sensible one amongst us. Originally running a claims team in a large UK motor insurance company, she followed her husband to the Caribbean and qualified as a bookkeeper. On her return to the UK she joined Belvedere Mead and is responsible for all things financial whilst also assisting with the other operational responsibilities we have as an employer.
Paul Mason, Director
Paul has supported Elaine throughout her career and was a key founding partner when Belvedere Mead was formed in 2010. Paul remains a shareholder and corporate director of Belvedere Mead but these days Paul’s role is more akin to that of a Non-Executive Director position.
